‘Transfer listed’ – Southampton and West Brom primed as Aston Villa await offers for rising star
According to Birmingham World, Aston Villa has made the decision to add right-back Kaine Kesler-Hayden to their transfer list before the summer transfer market opens.
Kesler-Hayden won the Lancashire club’s player of the season award for his efforts during his wildly successful loan stint at Championship team Preston North End this season. Kesler-Hayden was a shining star despite Preston’s poor season, which ended with them finishing only one point above the relegation zone.
Although Kesler-Hayden’s attitude and development have impressed the Villans, they don’t think he is yet up to par to advance into Unai Emery’s immediate plans. The same could be said for the more valuable Jacob Ramsey, but Emery is determined to hold onto the left-sided midfielder because he has the potential to be a key player. It is also preferable to sell players who are on the squad.According to reports, a number of Championship teams have been monitoring Kesler-Hayden when he was on loan at Preston and are considering approaching him.
However, Villa is waiting for teams in that division to show interest in Kesler-Hayden because they think he might be ready for a bottom-end Premier League squad.
Birmingham World has not yet announced the specific teams who are interested, although several teams might make sense as destinations. For example, Southampton, who were recently relegated, will likely have to find a replacement for right-back Kyle Walker-Peters when his contract expires this summer.
West Bromwich Albion might be potential suitors, too, as the Baggies are reported to be mulling up whether to sell right-back Darnell Furlong as he enters the final 12 months of his contract. Kesler-Hayden might make a wonderful replacement and the locality would make it an easy transfer for the 22-year-old.
Although the exact amount of the transfer price Villa will seek is unknown, Kesler-Hayden’s success this season will undoubtedly be taken into consideration. Villa needs to sell swiftly, but they don’t want to let players go for less than their worth, so they need to strike a compromise.
