Sheffield Wednesday are close to agreeing a deal to extend Barry Bannan’s stay at the club, The Star understands.
Speaking openly about his passion for Wednesday and Wednesdayites that has grown over the past ten years, the Owls captain has made no secret of his wish to complete his career at the club.
So there’s never been too much doubt that he would be sticking around for another year, and on Thursday it was announced in the Owls’ retained list that the skipper had been granted a new contract alongside Akin Famewo and Callum Paterson.
Barry Bannan is set to stay at Sheffield Wednesday
Bannan is expected to stay at Hillsborough for at least another season, according to The Star, which reports that the situation is almost resolved. The 35-year-old demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is still more than capable of playing at the Championship level, as he still played more minutes this season than all but one player (Shea Charles).

“I’ve been happy with how my season has gone so far, but I’d like it to be a little bit better as well,” “Baz” told the media in March. In the remaining games, I want to strive to score more goals, provide more assists, and help the football team win more games. At the conclusion of the season, we will then examine it. I’ll sign a new contract if one is provided to me; if not, I’ll definitely look for another one.
He was given an offer, and it appears that he will sign it as agreed. This could be the Owls’ first summertime task, and it prolongs the presence of a contemporary club icon. The opportunity to play 450 games for the Owls will allow him to move up their list of all-time appearance-makers. He will soon catch Liam Palmer.
