Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder makes Newcastle United reference ahead of Wembley clash with Sunderland
Ahead of Sheffield United’s match against Sunderland, Chris Wilder has brought up Newcastle United’s recent cup victory.
In preparation for their matchup with Sunderland in the Championship play-off final, Sheffield United is getting ready.
After winning 6-0 overall, Chris Wilder’s team advanced with ease, but Sunderland’s victory over Coventry City was decided in a far more dramatic manner thanks to a last-minute goal from Dan Ballard.
Pre-match talk has already begun from every corner, with Wilder citing Sunderland’s bitter rivals Newcastle United as a source of hope ahead of the match.
The Championship play-off final, which will see two of the second-tier heavyweights compete for promotion to the Premier League, is in eight days.

Chris Wilder, the manager of Sheffield United, compares Newcastle United to the Blades in an attempt to end their play-off curse.
Wilder wants to break the Blades’ record of never been promoted through the play-offs going into the Wembley final.
Even if Sunderland, led by Regis Le Bris, continues to stand in Sheffield United’s way, Wilder is still optimistic that his team may finally end their play-off curse.
According to The Star, Wilder stated, “I don’t feel there’s a negativity because of our previous campaigns.”
There is a sense of newness about it, a genuine conviction that we can write history and put all the terrible events of the past behind us.
The most of stuff, I’ve seen! Since 2016, we have been on a journey. Nobody probably anticipated that we would leave League One after six years there in our debut season.
Wilder continued by citing Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup victory this season as evidence that these records are set to be broken, something Sunderland supporters would undoubtedly prefer not to be reminded of.
“We’ve had other hardships. I always bring up Newcastle when I talk about it. The Geordies arrived at Wembley and performed admirably. There are as many positive instances of that as there are negative ones.

Chris Wilder will tell him that he needs to break his record.
The fact that Sheffield United has a dismal play-off record is not new, and nobody will be more conscious of that than Wilder and the current Blades team.
Without a doubt, Wilder has utilized this as a means of encouraging his team to increase their efforts.
Writing their names in the club’s history books would undoubtedly inspire his team if promotion to the Premier League wasn’t enough, and there isn’t a better guy to do so than Blades alumnus Wilder.
There aren’t many better managers at this level who can handle the pressure and turn it to their advantage, but Wilder’s team will be under pressure as the clear favorite against a Sunderland team that barely made it to the semi-finals.
