Burnley could be forced to sell James Trafford and another star as Clarets’ previous mistakes come back to haunt them

EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that James Trafford and one other Burnley player could be sold this summer to raise funds.

Burnley gained promotion to the Premier League in emphatic form, with Scott Parker’s side scoring 100 points in 46 games.

Parker’s side was awarded the’most underrated’ club in the Championship promotion race, and they were rock solid defensively, keeping 30 clean sheets during the season.

Their preparations for the top division have already been hampered by the confirmation of defender CJ Egan-Riley’s move to Strasbourg in France.

Egan-Riley isn’t the only member of the defensive partnership who could be leaving Turf Moor, as an update on Trafford and one other star has emerged.

James Trafford and Maxime Esteve could quit Burnley owing to financial concerns

According to EFL Analysis expert Graeme Bailey, Maxime Esteve will be moved this summer, and Trafford might be another sacrificial offering owing to the Clarets’ financial problems.

Bailey also claimed that Burnley is in a “massive mess” following a massive buying binge under Vincent Kompany in the previous league season. He stated, “What we’re hearing is that Burnley is in a complete mess.” They may have gone into administration if they hadn’t gone up.

They owe a lot of money from prior deals. They spent too much money the last time they went up against Vincent Kompany, and they’re in a lot of danger.

“Maxime Esteve will need to be sold. At least one more will need to be sold. “James Trafford may have to go.” Trafford might still stay, according to the expert, who also mentioned that other clubs will be interested in the number of goalkeepers on the market, such as Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher.

How much did Burnley pay for James Trafford?

The England Under-21 international joined Burnley from Manchester City in 2019 for a reported sum of £15 million, with add-ons totalling £19 million.

Trafford joined the Clarets in July 2023 and has been a near ever-present ever since. His performances have piqued the interest of various clubs, but Trafford has so far ignored any rumours linking him with a move away.

With a challenging season ahead, Burnley must retain their finest players.
