“Interesting” – Exclusive: Sky Sports pundit reacts to Norwich City, Pep Lijnders news.

Pep Lijnders and Norwich City

Lee Hendries, a former Premier League footballer and Sky Sports pundit, believes Norwich City could be the “ideal football club” for Pep Lijnders to begin his managerial career in England. The former Liverpool assistant is expected to be interviewed for the position.

The Canaries are looking for a new manager after sacking Johannes Hoff Thorup in April due to a poor record of only one win in eight league games.

According to John Percy of The Telegraph, Lijnders, who was Jurgen Klopp’s trusted assistant at Liverpool for nearly a decade, is set to hold talks with Norwich. He’s already had a taste of success in the country, having helped the Reds win the Premier League, one FA Cup, and two League Cups, not to mention the Champions League.

Lijnders’ solo management has not started as expected, with a brief stint at Red Bull Salzburg ending after only a few months. In fact, he only won 13 of a possible 26 games, which will not inspire many given RB Salzburg’s dominance in Austria.

Lee Hendrie sees Norwich City as an ideal platform for Pep Lijnders, provided they promise investment.

The former Aston Villa midfielder believes that while Lijnders has some pedigree from his time at Liverpool, if he is to bring success to Norwich, he would need strong financial backing.

In an exclusive interview with FLW, Hendrie stated, “He’s been linked with so many jobs hasn’t he? And obviously, working under Jurgen Klopp, I think he wants to go into management and give it a go.” I believe it would be an ideal football club for him to establish his identity, style, and approach.

“Norwich will need to invest and bring in players of his calibre to work with. It’s okay to work under a top manager, as seen with Maresca, but having the fundamentals, squad, and players to deal with that makes your decision much easier.”

“It will be an interesting one to keep an eye on because if they are obviously going to give him the opportunity to bring better players in, because they will lose players as well, that’d be the interesting one because the likes of Sargent and Sainz, probably going to end up going, then you’re sort of looking at a rebuild, bringing fresh blood in and that will entice him to take that opportunity.”

Chance to rebuild squad could attract Pep Lijnders to Norwich City

Hendrie mentioned the possibility of key departures from Carrow Road this summer as a factor that could entice the Dutchman to take the job, giving him complete control over building a squad his way.

Star players such as USA international Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz appear to be on the verge of leaving. Despite stating that he is “very happy” in NR1, a summer move is not out of the question after scoring 15 goals in the Championship this season. This could provide Lijnders with a generous budget to work with.

Hendrie believes Lijnders could be a good fit for Norwich if given the right conditions for success. However, it remains to be seen if Norwich decides to pursue further discussions with them.

There has to be something in him after working closely with a world-class manager like Klopp, and he does have an impressive trophy cabinet, whether he is an assistant or not.
