Tony Docherty hails impact of Lyall Cameron at Dundee after final-day brace.

Cameron scored twice in his last game with the Dark Blues. Tony Docherty hailed Lyall Cameron for an exceptional career at Dundee, as the midfielder finished with a double in a win over St Johnstone. Cameron, who signed a pre-contract with Rangers in February, led the Dark Blues to a 2-0 victory, lifting them out of the relegation play-offs. The 22-year-old scored after 28 minutes and capped a man-of-the-match performance with a stoppage-time penalty. Cameron’s fantasy farewell pushed him to 14 goals for the season, and Dundee finished 10th, four points ahead of Ross County.

Docherty stated: “I have a terrific relationship with all of my players, but I have a particularly close relationship with Lyall. “His character was never in doubt. I’m happy for him that he can depart with his head held high. “In the last three games, he has scored four goals and assisted on Scott Tiffoney’s goal in midweek, which should have been enough. “He’s been an excellent spokesperson for the team. A brilliant character. “He will go on to have a very great career, but I believe the club is beholden to him, and I’d like to thank him for his contributions. “It was really fitting that he scored the two goals to achieve this objective.”
