Uncertainty continues on Danny Röhl Sheffield Wednesday future as suitor club closes in on manager
According to sources, one of Sheffield Wednesday’s known suitor clubs is reportedly getting closer to making their next hire, adding to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the manager’s future.
The gifted German manager has been successful in his first managerial position, leading the Hillsborough team to a last-ditch survival effort in 2024 and a stress-free midtable finish in the current year.
Before faltering at the start of the year, Wednesday was given credit for the potential of an outsider play-off push in the first half of the season.
After Russell Martin was fired in December, Southampton, a Premier League team that had been demoted, approached Röhl about becoming manager.
Wednesday’s demands for compensation caused that strategy to fall apart, and Ivan Juric was hired until his resignation last month.
Röhl is still reportedly a target for the Saints, but any team hoping to hire the Owls manager will still have to deal with the compensation issue.

After departing French club Lens, Will Still is reportedly expected to take over as St Mary’s top manager, which The Star believes is true.
According to The Athletic on Sunday night, clubs from all over Europe, including those in the Premier League and the Bundesliga, were interested in hiring Röhl, but there was “no guarantee” that Southampton would be his “preference” for his future position.
Röhl is “considering multiple options” regarding his future, according to the same newspaper.
There is still a lot of uncertainty about how things will turn out, even though the season is only two weeks away from ending and the Owls’ summer is coming to an end with staff contracts ending in just over six weeks.
It’s common knowledge that Röhl is eager to leave Hillsborough, and he told reporters last month that Wednesday had been notified of “his decision” over his next course of action a few weeks before the campaign ended.
According to the rules of a contract signed last summer, The Star still believes that any team interested in Röhl will probably have to pay the Owls whatever compensation they are entitled to.
