Highly-rated international named among 10 other Sheffield Wednesday youth signings

The Sheffield Wednesday first-year scholars for 2025–2026 have been announced, including Welsh youth international Will Grainger and ten other player names.

As they placed second in the Professional Development League North, Wednesday’s U18 team had an excellent 2024–25 season. Several players were performing above their age group while representing Andy Sharp’s team on their way to the championship play-offs.

The names of Grainger, Alao, and James Kay, who have already garnered a lot of interest, have now been confirmed as scholars for the club’s U18s for the forthcoming season.

“The Owls are thrilled to welcome 11 new first-year scholars to the club who will join our U18s for the 2025/26 season,” the club said in a statement. On Wednesday after the close season break, the group will start its two-year scholarship.

The names of Grainger, Alao, and James Kay, who have already garnered a lot of interest, have now been confirmed as scholars for the club’s U18s for the forthcoming season.

“With many of the new scholars having been with the club since pre-academy age (U8s), the Owls academy is thrilled to see the players’ and staff’s hard work showing through, highlighting the incredible accomplishments by all involved.”

Perry Ridge, Yisa Alao, James Kay, Harry Chadbourne, Kleven De Oliveira, Thomas Streets, Reuben Selby, Will Grainger, Noah Dixon, Jack Barraclough, and Charlie Robinson are the new scholars.

In order to construct our 18s squad for the upcoming term, they will join the present second-year scholars. Aodhan Sopala, Charlie Hobbs, Daniel Da Costa, Liam Clayton, Kailen Hatfield, and Jacob Jessop are the second-year students. We hope the next two years bring success to all of our new scholars!

The departure of Jay Buchan, Cian Flannery, Jack Hall, Joey Phuthi, and Sam Reed from the U21s and Finley Hunt, Harris Lihe, Voldi Mbaya, Caiden Remy-Dee, Ari-Jae Shaw, Jack Swales, and Dominic Weston from the U18s was already confirmed.
