Blackburn clarity after reported addition to Ismael staff

Adam Murray, who took over as manager of Kidderminster Harriers, will not be joining Blackburn Rovers.

It has been suggested that the 43-year-old will relocate to Ewood Park and join Valerien Ismael’s backroom crew. Murray followed the head coach to West Brom and Besiktas after first working under Ismael at Barnsley.

Before taking over at Eastbourne Borough in January 2024, he managed AFC Fylde for a while. He guided the team to safety in the National League South.

Murray’s team lost to Maidstone United earlier this month in the playoffs, after finishing third this season.

Later this week, he made the announcement that he was quitting the club, which led to new rumors that he could be relocating to Ewood Park.

But instead, he was introduced as the new manager of Kidderminster. Prior to making the transfer permanent, he played on loan for the National Leaue North team in 2003–04.

Prior to moving to Mansfield, he made 22 appearances for the team and scored three goals. He went on to play for Carlisle, Torquay, Mansfield, and Oxford.

Phil Brown, who guided the Harriers to third place in the division but lost in the playoffs, is replaced by Murray. Alongside Brackley Town, Scunthorpe United received a promotion.

Regarding the hire, owner Richard Lane stated: “I’m thrilled to have Adam Murray join our football team. When we first met, his excitement, dedication, and passion for the role were evident, and his resume as a manager and player spoke for itself.

“This appointment, in my opinion, will excite our incredible Partners, Sponsors, supporters, and staff. It shows once more how dedicated we are to succeeding at this level, and we are all excited for the upcoming season.”

When he was appointed, Ismael did not rule out further additions to his squad, but other from the connections to Murray, nothing has been proposed.

“As I say it was the first step to come with Dean (Whitehead) and for sure we will assess the situation as I say and week after week to get that feeling,” he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“If we need to add someone more, then we will do it and at the minute it’s just to observe, to assess and later we will take some decisions.”
