Claudia Dickey, Lynn Biyendolo named to USWNT roster

Dickey could earn her first USWNT cap next week.

For their forthcoming games against China and Jamaica, Emma Hayes, the head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team, selected Seattle Reign attacker Lynn Biyendolo and goalkeeper Claudia Dickey to the 24-man USWNT roster.

The matches happen amid a break in NWSL play and a FIFA international window. The U.S. will play China on Saturday, May 31 at 2:30 p.m. PT (Universo & Peacock in Spanish, HBO Max, TBS). On Tuesday, June 3 at 5 p.m. PT (TNT, HBO Max, Universo & Peacock in Spanish), they will then play Jamaica.

Although it was an assessment camp with no games, Dickey had already been called up for the USWNT January training camp. If Hayes chooses to play her in either match, she might receive her maiden USWNT cap. Dickey joins a group of goalkeepers that includes Utah Royals goalie Mandy McGlynn and former Reign goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

“The info is truthful. Following the roster announcement, Hayes stated at a press conference that Claudia Dickey was likely the NWSL’s top goalie this season.

In fact, Opta claims that Dickey leads the NWSL in goals stopped, giving up only seven goals compared to 12.1 predicted. Compared to other goalkeepers in the league this season, that is almost double.

Dickey is the only player on this roster without a cap, along with Kansas City Current midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta and Orlando Pride defender Kerry Abello.

After missing games due to an ankle injury during the April window, Biyendolo is back on the U.S. roster. She has scored 22 goals and earned 78 caps for the USWNT.

Additional international break notes

During this FIFA window, seven other Reign players have already been called up by their national sides. Following this weekend’s NWSL games, players will report to their national teams. There may be more rotation for the Reign’s road game against San Diego on June 6 because many of these players have a lot of travel to do and international games are only three days away.
