We exclusively disclosed that West Brom likes the profile of Ryan Mason, who is currently the assistant coach at Tottenham Hotspur, even if they are still no closer to selecting the 61-year-old’s successor.

Mason is a serious contender to succeed Mowbray at the Hawthorns, and they are already working to make their first summer acquisition while their managerial predicament is still being worked out.

West Brom is vying with Southampton for James Penrice, a defender for Hearts.
EFL Analysis can exclusively disclose that West Brom wants to recruit James Penrice, a left-back for Hearts, based on information provided by our Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey.

Watford and Southampton, two Championship opponents, are also vying for his services, but Ian Pearce, the Baggies’ director of sport, is reportedly working hard to win the fight for Penrice.

Things West Brom supporters should know about Penrice
As the summer approaches, West Brom is prioritizing the acquisition of a new left-back. Last season, Callum Styles was primarily utilized in that capacity, however the adaptable player might have performed better in a midfield position.

However, their lack of depth at that position would be mitigated by the arrival of Penrice. In 2024–2025, he made 46 appearances for Hearts in all competitions, including five Europa Conference League starts.

Hearts saw a sharp decline in the Scottish Premiership standings, finishing seventh after finishing third the previous season, but the 26-year-old was a defensive star.

Penrice’s ability to deliver firepower down the left flank is demonstrated by his two goals and seven assists throughout all competitions.

With more than 100 appearances in Scotland’s three divisions, the Livingston native star may be prepared to take on the challenges of English football.
