Sheffield Wednesday top goal scorer Josh Windass has responded to reports linking him with interest from Spanish giants Valencia – and on his future.
The 31-year-old forward has been a vital player for the Owls since joining in 2019, scoring 53 goals and providing 23 assists in 182 games. Last week, it was announced that the club has extended his contract by one year, bringing him into his seventh season at Hillsborough.
Windass was asked on the Open Goal podcast how he thinks about his current situation at S6.
“Yeah, it’s good,” he remarked, later recalling his Wembley victory as his favorite moment in sport. “I have been there for five years, which is obviously a long period, but I have enjoyed it. I’m the club’s highest scorer this century, which is a record I aspired to set… The lads were attempting to get it for me. I went several games without a goal and didn’t think I’d get one. “I was thrilled after scoring from a yard out against Watford (in the season’s final game).
Windass, who was the subject of much speculation about his future heading into the final weeks of the season, was questioned about his contract. He has been of public interest to a number of teams in previous transfer windows, with bids rejected on a few times, and has stated, “I’ve got another year, but we’ll see (what happens).”
According to a rumor in the Spanish media, the former Rangers player is interested in joining La Liga club Valencia. It appears that Windass was mostly unaware of the link. The Mestalla club is presently led by Carlos Corberan, a former West Brom and Huddersfield Town manager who is known to be a fan of the Owls player.
“I don’t know anything about that, to be honest,” he stated in response to the Valencia report. “It will be because of Carlos. I went close to signing for West Brom last summer since I was a free transfer, but I ended up sticking with Sheffield Wednesday.”
