Derby County news from DerbyshireLive brings you the latest as the Rams prepare to bolster their squad this summer
Derby County are interested in signing Andi Weimann as they strive to improve their offensive options for next season.
DerbyshireLive understands that John Eustace wants the Rams to reunite with the attacker, who is available on a free transfer.
Blackburn has offered Weimann a new contract at Ewood Park, but Derby are hoping he will return to Pride Park for a second term.
Last season, the former Aston Villa forward scored nine goals for Rovers across all competitions, seven of them came in the league.
A move for Weimann makes perfect sense considering Derby’s desire to improve the strength and depth of their assault.
Weimann can play as a number 10, which fits Eustace’s favored configuration of 4-2-3-1.
Derby are looking to improve their offense after scoring 48 goals in the league previous season, over half of which came from set pieces.
Jerry Yates scored the most goals (10), with Ebou Adams coming in second with six.
Weimann coincidentally scored against Derby at the start of the season, when Rovers defeated Paul Warne’s side 4-2 at Ewood Park when Eustace was in command.
If Weimann completes his return to Pride Park, it will be his second stay at the club, having joined Derby from Aston Villa for an unknown price in 2015.
He made almost 80 league games for Derby and scored nine goals before moving on loan to Wolves before signing a permanent move with Bristol City.
Weimann scored 50 league goals in 205 appearances for the Robins before going on loan to West Bromwich.
He eventually joined Blackburn on a free transfer last summer, scoring seven league goals and one apiece in the FA and League Cup.
