Duncan Ferguson shares the fascinating conversation he had with Farhad Moshiri before Everton sacked Marco Silva

Everton fired Marco Silva in December 2019 following a bruising 5-2 loss to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.
Marco Silva was only in charge for 18 months and led the club to relegation. However, it was later acknowledged that he was not given adequate time.
The Portuguese manager has since established himself as one of the best in the Premier League, guiding Fulham to promotion before cementing their status as a top ten club.
The Cottagers are currently in 10th place and could move up to ninth on the season’s final day when they face Manchester City at home.

Everton fans expressed their desire for Silva to return to Goodison Park earlier this year, demonstrating his continued popularity.
Duncan Ferguson has shared the conversation he had with Everton’s board prior to his dismissal.

Duncan Ferguson urged Everton’s board to keep Marco Silva before his dismissal.
Duncan Ferguson, a former Everton striker and coach, spoke with Gary Lineker this week about some of his memories from the club.
The topic of Marco Silva was brought up, and Ferguson revealed that he had urged Farhad Moshiri not to fire him following the humiliating defeat to Liverpool.
“I told him to keep Marco,” the 53-year-old added. I told him to keep him.
“I told him to keep him, and they’ll tell you, the board of directors will tell you, that’s when they were talking about getting rid of him, and I was there at the time thinking I was going to lose my job, and when they realised I wasn’t going to lose my job, I said to them, look, whatever, you need to keep Marco for Saturday.
“You’ve got to give him another chance, because we’d just been beaten off at Liverpool, battered, humiliated. I believe it was the biggest defeat in Derby history.
“And we had Chelsea, who were flying under Frank Lampard and had only lost 15 games or so. And I said, give him another chance. But they had already made up their mind.”
Silva could depart Fulham at the end of the season.
Silva’s time at Fulham could be coming to an end, with some reports claiming he’ll join the Saudi Pro League this summer.
Silva has agreed to join Al-Hilal, but this will only happen if they fail to land their first-choice managerial candidate.
Silva has also been linked with the Tottenham Hotspur job, but Ange Postecoglou’s win over Manchester United in the Europa League last night may rule that out.
Ferguson was right to ask Moshiri for more time, but football has moved on and David Moyes is doing an excellent job as manager.
