Hull City closing in on new manager ‘you won’t have heard of’ with Jared Dublin advice

Insinuating that it won’t be a household name to Championship fans, Hull City owner Acun Ilicali anticipates appointing a new manager the next week.

Former Newcastle United footballer Emre Belozoglu and former Sunderland and Rangers boss Michael Beale have reportedly been questioned by Hull, who have a five-person shortlist. However, a clear favorite appears to be forming at Ilicali, which is situated in Mayfair, central London, and has sporting director Jared Dublin, the former head of recruitment at Stoke City.

“I would say that I think it will take no more than one week,” Ilicali said in an interview with Halifax Live. “I believe we will reach a consensus with a manager in a week, but I doubt he will be someone you are familiar with.

“I don’t want to spend too much time discussing the managers’ potential because I don’t feel comfortable discussing managers on their behalf, as if it’s possible or not.

It’s like I’m passing judgment on them. All of the managers we are speaking with, in my opinion, are excellent managers. Emre is a top manager, in my opinion. When you talk to Michael Beale, you realize how knowledgeable he is about the game.

“I can’t tell you right now that this one is like this or this one is like this, but I’m really hoping to complete the transaction in a week. The club has football wits who will make the decision regarding this manager.

Since you only hear about two of our applicants, the answer is yes (there are other possible options). We currently have five, and one of them seems more appropriate for our club every day, but none of you are aware of its name.”

After working with then-managers Steven Schumacher and Alex Neil to orchestrate a significant transfer revamp at Stoke for a season, Dublin joined Hull last summer. He still maintains a close bond with Neil, whom he nearly brought to Hull with him when they finally went for Ruben Selles last winter.

Ilicali, Mustapha Yokes, the owner’s right-hand man, and Martin Hodge, the new head of recruiting, will support Dublin in the managerial appointment process.

After losing out on the playoffs, Hull fired Liam Rosenior as manager about this time last year. However, after a terrible start under Tim Walter, their Championship status was only guaranteed on the last day of this season, and Selles paid the price for allowing it to come down to the last minute.
