Scott Parker makes shock Burnley claim over Leeds United – bold statement ahead of Premier League season

Leeds United and Burnley had one of the more entertaining title battles in English football during the last year. It had a lot of ups and downs before the final day of the season.

Two teams were neck and neck from the start of the year; the Clarets and Whites were unstoppable. Both teams had outstanding home records, winning the majority of their points.

Leeds needed a last-minute goal on the final day of the season to win the league title. Both teams finished with 100 points, although Daniel Farke’s side had a better goal differential.

Scott Parker makes Leeds United comparison

Leeds and Burnley were promoted this season, and they will both play in the Premier League. Clarets manager Scott Parker discussed his team’s strong defensive and how it offers them an advantage over other teams heading into the upcoming season.

“The foundation will be the culture and atmosphere that we have established in a relatively short period of time. That will be the foundation of what drives next year, and that will be all.

“We understand it will be a challenge, which has been shown over the last two seasons. But we do have something here: cohesion, a core group of men who stick together.”

This follows Burnley defender Maxime Esteve praising Leeds for their role in the title race this season.

Leeds’ defence is on par with Burnley’s. Burnley had a strong defensive in the Championship this season, as did Leeds United. Goals conceded indicate that the Clarets conceded 14 fewer goals than the Whites.

However, the gap is primarily due to the performances of James Trafford and Illan Meslier. Leeds’ custodian made several blunders, allowing a number of goals.

Parker’s team had more organisation since they sat in a deep block for the majority of the game, although Daniel Farke emphasised pressing. Outside of that, both teams’ defensive numbers were extremely comparable this season.

It is a compelling argument that Leeds’ defence might help them compete in the Premier League next season.
