Former League Top Scorer Eyeing Celtic Return

Celtic have limited options up front and a former Scottish Premiership top scorer expressed his wish to return to Celtic.

Celtic’s frontline has been lain thin ever since Kyogo Furuhashi departed the club to join Rennes in the winter transfer window. The Hoops didn’t recruit an out-and-out striker to replace the Japanese front and instead shifted Daizen Maeda to a central position and brought in Jota on the wing.

However, the team has little options up front as a result of having to switch Maeda back to being a left winger due to Jota’s recent long-term injury.

In order to rectify the situation, it is anticipated that the club would sign a dependable striker during the upcoming transfer window. A move to Parkhead has already been associated with a number of names.

One of them is Giorgos Giakoumakis, a former Celtic player who joined Atlanta United in 2023 and seems to be thinking about returning to Parkhead. The Greek forward, who presently plays for Cruz Azul, has stated that he would like to rejoin the Hoops if given the chance.

Giakoumakis leaving surprised many as he left soon after a spectacular season, with him being the top scorer in the Premiership. So it is likely that he would feel that he still has some unfinished business at Celtic.

“You want to set the fire? I would love to play for Celtic again. I don’t know if that’s a utopia or if it could happen again – but who wouldn’t?” Giakoumakis was quoted by the Daily Record as saying: “Even if you don’t know what it feels like to be there, when you’ve been there, you know exactly what it means.” “So if someone played for Celtic and he was successful and you ask him a couple of years later, ‘Would you play again for Celtic?’ and he tells you no, he’s a stupid guy. He’s so dumb.”

“So, yes, I would absolutely adore wearing this jersey once more. I’m not sure if I’ve completed this circle, but that’s my reality.

Indeed, Giakoumakis made a big impression during his brief time playing for Celtic. But with just nine goals for his team this season, the Greek international has had a challenging campaign. Therefore, it might not be the greatest idea for the Scottish champions to make a bid for him at this time.
