Newcastle United eyeing Coventry City star as potential transfer target

The Sky Blues succumbed to Sunderland in dramatic fashion in the second leg of their semi-final, and their attention now shifts to a critical summer window, while the Black Cats face Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Ambitious recruitment has been critical to City’s march to the top of the Championship table, but in recent years, they have also seen several key players depart for large prices. Now, one of their star players, Jack Rudoni, is attracting high-profile attention.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United has scouted Coventry City offensive midfielder Rudoni as part of their summer transfer target list.

The Magpies will have significantly more financial leeway this summer as PSR problems ease, and Rudoni could be someone they consider signing.

The 23-year-old midfielder is currently contracted with the Sky Blues until the summer of 2028. He signed a four-year contract with the club after joining from Huddersfield Town last summer.

A starring role

Rudoni may not have had the best of starts at Coventry City as he adapted to Mark Robins’ ways, but form eventually came for the midfielder, and he reached a new level under Frank Lampard’s leadership.

Coventry City man Jack Rudoni

Overall, the former AFC Wimbledon star scored 10 goals and assisted 13 times in 50 appearances across all competitions for the club. Nine goals and 12 assists were recorded during the regular Championship season, a feat that few other players can match.

He was deployed on the left side of a midfield three as well as in his customary attacking midfield position, where he excelled.

Other Coventry City assets to be sold?

Coventry City’s outstanding recruitment record has resulted in players attracting a lot of attention in recent years. As Newcastle United scout Rudoni, perhaps a similar summer lies ahead.
However, the Sky Blues only signed him for a sizable cost last summer, and valuable assets rarely leave the team. They appear to prefer fighting off interest in order to further develop them and increase earnings in the future.

And, with other key individuals more likely to pursue higher-level opportunities, Rudoni may choose to stay put.

After failing to gain promotion, players such as Milan van Ewijk and Haji Wright may seek higher league interest and move on.
