23-year-old QPR man among Bolton Wanderers transfer targets

QPR are preparing for a big summer transfer window, and it appears to be one of change.
With Marti Cifuentes currently on gardening leave and the search for successors underway, a new boss will take over. The new R’s manager will be anxious to make an impact on the group while also aiming to further develop the present players.

However, there are a few players who could find better possibilities elsewhere. Among them is outstanding young goalkeeper Murphy Cooper, who returns to West London after a successful year with Stevenage.

According to The Bolton News, the QPR shot-stopper is a target for Bolton Wanderers, who are looking to add a new goalkeeper to their squad this summer.

The Trotters have been linked with a few names, including Ted Sharman-Lowe and Owen Goodman. Both would be on loan, as would R’s ace Cooper, and a temporary contract is thought to be the most likely option in their hunt for a new goalkeeper.

At this moment in time, it is reported that Sharman-Lowe looks to be at the top of the list.

Ideal for Cooper?

Cooper, who recently returned from a good League One loan with Stevenage, will be eager to improve on his success.
To do so, he must find consistent minutes with or away from QPR. The latter appears to be the more likely scenario, thus a move to a team higher up the third tier table could be excellent for him.
Bolton Wanderers endured a rough 2024/25 season, but under Steven Schumacher’s leadership, they plan to disrupt the division’s top dogs again next season. Cooper’s signing can help them accomplish this, and it may be a positive move for his career to contend for a starting spot against a solid goalkeeper like Luke Southwood.

QPR has two outstanding young goalkeepers in Cooper and Joe Walsh, both of whom are 23.
However, Frenchman Paul Nardi was a major hit when he arrived last summer, and it appears doubtful that he would be removed from the starting lineup. Even a change in management should not affect his position on the team.

As a result, one of Walsh or Cooper will likely provide backup and competition next season, while the other goes on loan. That choice is up to the R’s, but with Cooper already attracting attention, another period away from Loftus Road may be in store for him.
