Swansea City are considering a move for Oli McBurnie in the coming summer transfer window.

According to the BBC, the 28-year-old is on the Welsh club’s radar after spending the season in Spain with Las Palmas.

McBurnie previously played for the Swans from 2015 to 2019, but only for one season as a regular member of the first team.

He made 58 league appearances for the club over three seasons, including 16 in the Premier League, before moving to Sheffield United following their 2019 promotion.

Swansea are reportedly considering bringing back McBurnie this summer after Las Palmas’ relegation from La Liga.

The Scot joined the Spanish club from the Blades last summer, signing a three-year deal.

Following the club’s relegation from La Liga, he is now a free agent.

Swansea are interested in bringing the forward back to the club. However, they will face competition from Hull City, who are also interested in signing the 17-cap Scotland international, according to Alan Nixon.

It remains to be seen whether he would consider returning to the Swans or another Championship club, such as the Tigers, or if he would prefer to stay abroad.

McBurnie has played 33 games in the top flight this season, scoring three goals and providing six assists, with Las Palmas’ relegation to the second tier already confirmed with only one game remaining.

McBurnie’s final season with Swansea resulted in a lucrative move to Sheffield United, who had just been promoted to the Premier League under Chris Wilder.

According to the BBC, the forward signed for £20 million and scored six league goals in his first season at Bramall Lane.

However, he struggled in the following two seasons, with injuries impeding his progress, before rebounding with a 13-goal season to help the Blades reclaim promotion in 2023.

McBurnie scored six more Premier League goals in 2023/24 as the Yorkshire club was relegated, resulting in his move to Las Palmas last July.

Swansea City could benefit from an Oli McBurnie reunion if they can reach an agreement.

McBurnie has demonstrated his ability to compete at the top level over the last two seasons and has a track record of scoring goals in the Championship.

He is familiar with the club from his previous time at Swansea and could be the catalyst for them to push on and compete for a top six finish under Alan Sheehan.

The relatively low cost of a deal, which will cost no transfer fee, is also appealing to the Championship side.

If they can close this deal, it could be very good business for the South Wales club ahead of the new season.
