Josh Windass, an attacker for Sheffield Wednesday, is said to be joining Carlos Corberan’s Valencia team this summer.
According to Spanish media, the La Liga team, which is led by the former manager of West Bromwich Albion, is interested in the 31-year-old. By his own admission, Windass was on the verge of joining the Baggies last summer before deciding to commit to the Owls for the near future.
He said he was unaware of Valencia’s interest when questioned about the ties on the Open Goal podcast. They just activated a one-year option in his contract, extending his tenure at Hillsborough until Wednesday. This was in response to hints that his father, former EFL player Dean Windass, would be departing the team this summer.

Windass had previously received an offer from a foreign company. According to reports, the Brazilian team Santos made a bid for him during the winter transfer window, but nothing happened.
Football League World’s Wednesday fan analyst Patrick McKenna acknowledges that a player like Windass may be enticed to make such a transfer to Spain, but he doesn’t believe it’s a feasible possibility.
McKenna remarked, “I can definitely see him being interested by this.” How come you wouldn’t be? Valencia has a long history. They often competed at the top of La Liga, and I grew up watching them in Champions League finals.
“They are still in La Liga, which is arguably the greatest league in the world, even though they aren’t playing at that level right now. Compared to the Championship, some of the teams and players you will face would be far better. Your Barcelona, your Atletico Madrid, your Real Madrid, and your Villareal. How wonderful that would be!
Of course, you could equally make the case that he enjoys the sun, the opportunity to experience a different culture and way of life, and the prospect of relocating to a nation with milder temperatures.
“Everything I just described would be extremely alluring. The only thing that would deter him is whether Valencia would give him consistent playing time. I doubt he would, but at this point in his career, would he want to go from a team where he plays frequently and is a significant player to one where he is more of a supporting cast member?
“This is an important phase. He has a few more years to provide, and you don’t want your career to stall down as you play less and fewer games.
Although it’s a move that would naturally entice any player, he must consider if it would be advantageous from a football perspective. In any case, I’m not quite certain that this would succeed. There is no reason to believe that it will succeed.

Being a football player is a relatively brief career. Before father time truly sets in, the fortunate ones get to enjoy 15 years at a high level.
Windass, who is 31 years old, has a few more miles to go, but not enough to play for one of Spain’s best teams, with a management he will already be familiar with about his immense skill.
He may not have another shot, and he doesn’t seem excessively confident in the Wednesday project based on his dad’s many indications and the fact that he has a one-year contract this season and will have another one next time.
That belief will only be dented by the current uncertainty surrounding manager Danny Rohl, who has been linked with a number of other jobs this summer.
