Tony Fernandes, former owner of QPR, congratulated the former R’s midfielder on his FA Cup victory with Crystal Palace via Instagram on May 19.

Fernandes commented: “What a fantastic day. I caught up with the greatest and most humble football player I’ve ever known.

“More great things are on the way. More power to you, brother. @eze. Congratulations to @cpfc and all Palace fans on their impressive win.

“One of our own @officialqpr.”

Eberechi Eze remains one of QPR’s greatest acquisitions.

After moving through various clubs’ academy systems, including Arsenal, Fulham, Millwall, and Reading, Eze found a permanent home at QPR in 2016.

Signed on a one-year contract for the 2016/17 season, Eze had to demonstrate patience before receiving his big break at Loftus Road.

After making his professional debut in January 2017, the attacking midfielder spent the first half of the 2017/18 season on loan at Wycombe Wanderers in League Two, scoring five goals and providing one assist in 20 league appearances.

Following the expiration of that loan deal, Eze quickly established himself as a first-team regular with the Hoops, and he was quick to demonstrate to them, as well as previous talent evaluators, the type of ability he possessed.

Eze’s QPR career stats (all comps) – per FotMob
Season Appearances Goals Assists
19/20 48 14 8
18/19 46 4 3
17/18 17 2 0
16/17 1 0 0

When he left QPR in August 2020, he had made over 100 appearances, 20 goals, and 11 assists.

Crystal Palace wisely spent £19.5 million to bring him to Selhurst Park, and he has since repaid the fee multiple times.

Since then, Eze has established himself as an England international and elevated his game to the next level, emerging as one of the Premier League’s best attacking midfielders as he enters his prime years.

QPR holds a special place in his heart as it was the club that gave him his first senior football opportunity. He rewarded them with a lucrative salary and created unforgettable memories for R’s fans.

Fernandes is correct; Eze will always be one of QPR’s own.
