Sky Sports confirm transfer ‘talks’ between Celtic and out of contract Premier League left-back

The Scottish Cup final may be Taylor’s final Celtic match, but Brendan Rodgers is still hopeful the left-back will sign a new deal.
According to reports, Taylor has always had an offer from Celtic, but he hasn’t accepted anything yet. His contract expires in the summer.

As Jeffrey Schlupp’s loan from Crystal Palace is about to end, Celtic will be without a senior left-back if Taylor leaves.

However, Sky Sports has now released an intriguing update on Schlupp’s future at Celtic.

Sky Sports deliver Jeffrey Schlupp Celtic update

According to Sky Sports writer Anthony Joseph, Taylor and Schlupp’s individual circumstances will determine Celtic’s left-back quest during the next transfer window.

Given that Schlupp’s contract with Crystal Palace is up, Joseph has stated that the Hoops are in fact in discussions with him about perhaps extending his stay at the club.

Rodgers obviously wants to deal with Schlupp, but as previously mentioned, Taylor’s future will be a concern.

“The left-back hunt will depend on the futures of Jeffrey Schlupp and Greg Taylor, which will be decided after this weekend’s cup final,” Joseph wrote. It is said that Hoops gave Taylor a new contract and let the player make the decision.

Schlupp and the club have been discussing the prospect of Schlupp staying longer in Glasgow. Both his loan and his Crystal Palace contract expire in the summer.

“Celtic will look to acquire another left-back if neither stays.”

Celtic will compete with Leicester City for Schlupp

There are other parties interested in Schlupp’s future besides Celtic. The 32-year-old defender, who was born in Germany, seems to be drawing interest from Leicester City, his previous team.

The Foxes may be able to get Schlupp for nothing because they were just demoted from the Premier League and will not have as much money to spend in the EFL Championship.

Throughout the second part of the season, Schlupp, who has made 17 appearances for the Hoops, gave Taylor some tough competition.

He demonstrated that he could play at the Champions League level, although in spurts, by scoring and helping in the 5-2 victory over St Mirren on the road.

But he was called “lazy” after the loss to St Johnstone, and he hasn’t played much since that April match.
