Reading midfielder Lewis Wing has signed a three-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2028.

The former Wycombe Wanderers player has made 99 appearances in two seasons and is one of the squad’s most important players since their relegation to League One.

Renowned for his long-range goal-scoring ability, no EFL player has scored more from outside the box in recent years.

He won Player of the Season in his debut season and Goal of the Season this year, and despite having one year left on his contract, he has signed a three-year extension.

Meanwhile, Amadou Mbengue, Joel Pereira, and 11 others are out of contract as the club seeks to maintain a squad capable of competing for promotion.

Speaking about Lewis’ renewal, Royals Chief Executive Joe Jacobson said, “We are delighted Lewis has agreed to extend his contract with us because he is an important part of our plans for next season. Lewis is a top performer at this level and above, and I know the positive impact he has in the dressing room, having stepped up to become a true leader in recent years – so it was critical for us to extend his stay as we look to build a highly competitive squad, not just for this season but for the future.”

Wing discussed the fan base’s loyalty and the impact of new owner Rob Couhig on his decision to renew. However, Wing has previously stated that he wishes to end his career with the club.
