Rangers now in talks to hire Scandinavian manager after Patrick Stewart update

Rangers are currently apparently in talks to sign Brian Priske as their new manager.

Priske, 48, was hired as the Feyenoord manager last summer when Arne Slot left for Liverpool.

However, the Danish coach was fired in February due to poor results. As efforts to find Philippe Clement’s permanent successor at Ibrox intensify, he appears to be in the race to become the future Rangers manager.

Priske is in negotiations following the official Patrick Stewart update at Ibrox.

Davide Ancelotti has been strongly linked to Rangers in recent weeks.

However, according to BBC Sport (24 May), Priske is a possibility to be the next manager at Ibrox after meeting with the Scottish Premiership runners-up.

It has been more than three months since the Gers fired Clement. Barry Ferguson took interim leadership of the first team between then and the completion of the season.

Team From To Games Win %
Midtjylland August 2019 May 2021 79 58%
Royal Antwerp May 2021 May 2022 49 44%
Sparta Prague June 2022 June 2024 96 65%
Feyenoord June 2024 February 2025 33 51%

However, it has been decided that the former midfielder will not be in charge permanently.

Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart informed fans last week that the search for a new manager is “progressing well, and we look forward to concluding our process in the coming period”.

Will Steven Gerrard become the new Rangers manager?

The majority of the concrete speculation about the Rangers position appears to focus on Ancelotti. The Italian coach has long worked as an assistant manager for his father, Carlo Ancelotti, but perhaps it’s time to lay the nepotism allegations to rest with Davide embarking on a full management role on his own.

Steven Gerrard’s name has also come up. However, Gerrard appears to be no further along than Ancelotti and Priske.

Talks have been reported between Rangers and those two parties but talk linking them with a move to hire their previous Scottish Premiership-winning manager seems to be little more than that – speculation.

Gerrard’s return appears improbable at this time, but Priske, who has previously managed Midtjylland, Royal Antwerp, Sparta Prague, and Feyenoord, appears to fit the pattern of what the incoming Ibrox board may want.
