Plymouth Argyle set to seal transfer agreement for 25-year-old defender.

Plymouth Argyle have agreed to recruit Aberdeen left-back Jack MacKenzie this summer. According to Alan Nixon on Patreon, the Pilgrims have agreed to terms with the 25-year-old, who is out of contract with the Dons. The Daily Record revealed last month that Plymouth was interested in acquiring MacKenzie’s services, and the deal appears to have been finalised.
Plymouth Argyle close in on Jack MacKenzie deal
Plymouth are looking to improve their ranks ahead of their return to League One, and MacKenzie has been identified as a key signing. Nixon writes on his Patreon that Argyle intend to sign the left-sided defender on a free transfer. His contract at Pittodrie expires this summer, and arrangements have been reached for a move to Home Park. MacKenzie made his final appearance for the club in the Scottish Cup Final on Saturday, contributing to a historic victory over Celtic. The defender’s move to Plymouth will be his first experience playing football outside of Scotland, having spent his whole career with Aberdeen, including a loan spell with Forfar Athletic.

MacKenzie has been a regular in Scotland’s top flight for several years, and he was also called up to the Scotland national squad in October. He has been a regular in their squad in recent seasons, establishing himself as the left-back at Pittodrie under Jimmy Thelin. Nixon earlier reported in October that Sheffield United, Stoke City, and Preston North End were all interested in his talents, but Argyle appears to have won the battle for his signature.
Plymouth Argyle are getting their summer business done quickly
Miron Muslic impressed after replacing Wayne Rooney at Home Park last season, and there were some worry among Argyle supporters that the Pilgrims would lose their manager this summer. This is still a possibility, but the fact that the club is doing business early will be a positive indication for Plymouth fans. Jamie Patterson, who arrives from Coventry City at the end of his contract, was the first signing of the window. Caleb Watts has also been signed from Devon rival Exeter City. If the Pilgrims can rapidly create a third-tier squad, Muslic may have enough reason to stay in his post.
