LEE WILKIE: Why the Dundee job is perfect for an ambitious manager

LEE WILKIE: Why the Dundee job is perfect for an ambitious manager.

It must not take long for the Dark Blues to find a replacement for Tony Docherty.

LEE WILKIE: Dundee produced priceless derby performance

For any ambitious manager, the Dundee position is ideal.

When Tony Docherty was fired, I was a little taken aback that they had no one in queue to take his place.

After the season’s last game, it is evident that the choice was not taken on the spur of the moment.

Usually, you know who you want to take the manager’s position when you know he’s leaving.

Although Shaun Maloney appears to be the name in the picture, they may have that in mind and wish to follow the correct hiring procedures.

That might be as simple as crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s. Or perhaps you’re just curious about who else is out there.

Dens Park is going to receive some rather intriguing resumes.

Very important work

Because, at the moment, Dundee is a serious job for a serious manager.

Looking back over the years, the club hasn’t been in this situation for a very long time.

For the third consecutive season, they will now be a Premiership club. The new stadium and training facility are exciting off the pitch.

They performed poorly last season after overperforming in Docherty’s debut season.

Counting the number of games that Dundee should have won requires more than one hand. late in the game, but in a position to win.

That indicates a squad that has a good chance of finishing significantly higher.

Additionally, for any self-assured boss, joining a team that isn’t performing well is ideal.

I glance at Hearts. Derek McInnes would be perfect for the position because Tynecastle is a large club that did not perform well the previous season, and he will give it his all to make things better.

For the next man in the Dens Park hot seat, the same might apply.

Now is a fantastic time to hire a new manager.

Gamers

The team needs a lot of work, but it also gives you the opportunity to truly customise it from the beginning.

However, Dens Park leaders should be cautious about that.

Transfer targets will get weary of waiting if this hunt for a new manager drags on forever, and the players at the club who are waiting for a new contract will receive offers from other places.

That doesn’t seem like a major problem to me right now. The majority of managers and players are currently on vacation and just want to take a break from football.

However, it’s bad for the boys like Scott Fraser, Charlie Reilly, and Joe Shaughnessy who are stuck in contract limbo.

In a perfect world, they would have like to be informed two months ago. Nothing is worse than having no team during this stage of the season.

It’s different if you’re very interested; you know you’ll have a team, but you simply need to choose well.

It’s a another matter entirely if you’re expecting that the club you’re at will give you a better offer.

I’ve witnessed it far too frequently at the youth and first team levels, where players are left hanging until the very last day, while clubs take care of themselves. It’s wrong.

For Dundee, striking a balance is challenging. Taking the time to hire the most qualified management for the position is the wisest course of action.

However, if it takes too long, the team could fall behind its opponents.
