Exclusive: Sky Sports pundit drops big prediction on Josh Windass’ Sheffield Wednesday future

According to Spanish reports, La Liga powerhouse Valencia has expressed interest in signing Sheffield Wednesday’s Josh Windass.

The news comes after the 31-year-old offensive midfielder’s contract was exercised on Wednesday, extending his tenure at Hillsborough.

The Owls’ leading scorer, who has 13 goals, has been linked to transfers away from the South Yorkshire team on many occasions. During the January transfer window, there were rumors of a move from Brazilian powerhouse Santos.

Josh Windass for Sheffield Wednesday

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports analyst Lee Hendrie, Football League World asked him whether he believes Josh Windass, a former Wigan Athletic, Rangers, and Accrington Stanley player, would be enticed to leave S6.

“It is clear that Josh Windass of Sheffield Wednesday may be leaving the football team.” Hendrie informed FLW.

The football team wants to sign Valencia. Is Josh giving in to temptation? He probably would be. Why he wouldn’t be is beyond me. With all due respect to Sheffield Wednesday, I believe that playing for Valencia and in Spain is on a different level.

“I don’t understand how you wouldn’t be tempted by that, because it’s the closest you’re going to get to Premier League football.”

“I believe that Sheffield Wednesday would lose, but I also believe that Josh would definitely take notice of the team, and I would not be surprised if that were to occur.”

Sheffield Wednesday's Josh Windass

Josh Windass of Sheffield Wednesday has denied rumors that a move to Valencia is imminent, despite fresh rumors tying him to an unexpected La Liga transfer.

In an honest interview with the Open Goal podcast, Windass stated:

“To be honest, I don’t know anything about that. Carlos [Corberan] will be the cause of that. Last summer, I was on the verge of joining West Brom as a free agent, but I ultimately chose to stay at Sheffield Wednesday.

Windass, who was the focus of much discussion among Owls fans about his future as the season came to a close, also provided a revealing update on his contract status.

He went on to say, “I have another year, but we’ll see [what happens],” implying that his future at Hillsborough might not be completely set in stone.

Carlos Corberan, who is currently in charge of Valencia, has long liked the 31-year-old and has made many attempts to lure him to West Brom.

Even though the move never happened, Corberan’s enthusiasm for him hasn’t diminished, and his promotion to a prestigious European club has sparked new discussions about a possible merger.

Despite Wednesday using the one-year extension clause in Windass’ contract, the player’s remarks imply that a summer transfer is still conceivable.
