Leeds United ready to sign an entire new squad – they’ve got the resources

Leeds United Aim to Break Promotion Struggles with £100m Transfer War Chest

Leeds United are determined to avoid becoming the latest newly promoted side to struggle in the Premier League, as they prepare for a bold return to the top flight with ambitions beyond survival.

According to a report from Football Insider (11 May), Leeds are preparing to hand manager Daniel Farke a summer transfer budget exceeding £100 million, with plans already underway to revamp the squad significantly.

Despite finishing top of the Championship ahead of Burnley, the club’s leadership wants to ensure the step up in quality is met with serious reinforcements. Up to ten new signings are reportedly being targeted ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness, now a senior football consultant, believes this is just the beginning. He suggested that Leeds are preparing to completely transform their squad over the next two seasons.

‘Leeds Hatch Two-Year Premier League Plan’

Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained that ownership group 49ers Enterprises is committed to investing in the squad long-term, especially if the club secures Premier League survival in their first season back.

Fans won’t have to wait long to see who Leeds will face in their return to the big stage. The 2025–26 Premier League fixtures will be released on 18 June, with the season officially beginning on 16 August.

Although Wyness expects Leeds to face an uphill battle in their first year, he believes the club will manage to stay up.

“I do expect them to be in the bottom six next year, but I expect them to survive.
I think the £150million number is a bit fanciful. I’m going to stick with my forecast of up to £100million in spending this summer.
It’s going to be a battle for 17th place but I think that investment will be enough to make a run at it.
You have a squad to stay up, and then you have to build almost an entire new squad to push on if you achieve it.
There’s no doubt the 49ers will back them in doing that. They’ve got the resources to do it.”

Leeds Join Race for £25m Southampton Midfielder

Meanwhile, Football Insider (23 May) also reports that Leeds are among several clubs showing serious interest in Matheus Fernandes, a rising talent from Southampton.

The 25-year-old midfielder is also being pursued by Aston Villa and West Ham, with Southampton preparing for interest following their recent relegation to the Championship.

Fernandes, who joined the Saints from Sporting CP in the summer of 2024, is currently under contract until June 2029. However, with the club now outside the top flight, they may struggle to retain him. It’s understood that Southampton have placed a £25 million valuation on the player.
