“Maybe It’s Time” – Scott Brown Hints Greg Taylor Could Move On

Celtic great Scott Brown feels Greg Taylor is ready for a new challenge, as the left-back’s future at Parkhead remains uncertain as his contract expires in the coming weeks.

During the BBC’s Scottish Cup final coverage, Brown lauded Taylor’s abilities and acknowledged his commitment to the club during a successful period—but hinted that the time may have come for a change.

“Everyone constantly criticises his defensive ability. They always mention the Champions League. Kieran is coming back. Everyone knows this. He’s an unbelievable player. “Maybe Greg should try something else. Celtic fans would still love to have him here to compete with Kieran.”

Taylor’s contract is about to expire, and no new contract has been agreed upon, therefore speculation about his next move continues. Brendan Rodgers confirmed last week that an extension was still possible, although Kieran Tierney’s arrival this summer adds to the uncertainty.

Greg Taylor will not want to be a backup and will be looking for a position where he can play on a regular basis. Taylor has been a regular under Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou, having made over 150 appearances since signing from Kilmarnock in 2019.

He has played a crucial role in the club’s domestic success, but he has frequently faced criticism in Europe. Brown, who is currently managing Ayr United and is apparently in the mix for the Dundee post, spoke with the authority of someone who understands what it takes to prosper at Celtic—as well as when it may be time to walk on.

Whether Taylor continues to battle for his job or seeks a new challenge is one of the crucial considerations ahead of the new season.
