After another disappointing season in which two team managers, Steven Schumacher and Narcis Pelach, were fired, Stoke City is starting a busy summer building a new team that meets Mark Robins’ demands while also adhering to the EFL’s strict spending regulations.
As it stands, a draw at Derby on the last day guaranteed them a spot in the Championship, but current manager Robins has a difficult task ahead of him in trying to turn around a team that was frightening many Premier League rivals not too long ago.
Although we don’t yet have all the information, we do know certain things about the Potters’ preseason. For instance, it is now known that Robins’ retained list includes Lewis Baker remaining on the team while veteran but injury-prone players Lynden Gooch, Jordan Thompson, Michael Rose, and Enda Stevens were all discharged.
Thursday, June 26 is when the EFL matches will be announced. The fixtures will be revealed at noon this year, which is a big change from the previous year when they were released at 9am.
The first round of Championship fixtures are scheduled to take place over the weekend of August 8 to 10, with Carabao Cup first-round ties coming in the following week.
Fixtures release day will also incorporate the draw for the Vertu Trophy group stages, which will also be shown on Sky Sports News from 2.30pm.
The 46 rounds of Championship fixtures are set to be played over 33 weekends, nine midweeks, and four bank holidays, according to the EFL.
