Ipswich Town plans to develop car park approved.

Ipswich Town Football Club has authorised proposals to build a car park area behind the Sir Alf Ramsey stand, which was formerly occupied by a gym and stationery store.

The club’s proposal is for land behind the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand at its Portman Road Stadium, opposite the fire and police stations and crown court.

Ipswich Borough Council has accepted proposals to create 185 spaces, which will be used primarily by staff on matchdays. The authority stated in the planning application that “the proposal would be acceptable having regard to air quality, flood risk, trees and biodiversity, design and character, car parking policy, and highway safety.” The club stated that six electric vehicle charging stations would be built during the development.

About 17 of the spaces would also be returned to the nearby Travelodge hotel.

The parking park’s entry and departure points on Chancery Road will be renovated, and a new entry and exit point for hotel guests would be established on Russell Road.

Previously, the club said these facilities would “support the larger training ground development and the associated Category One status for the club’s Academy”.

The team has also submitted planning proposals for additional upgrades, including alterations to the stadium’s south-west corner. The most recent application said that the current first-floor warehouse area would be converted into a two-storey office space. It also announced the construction of a new mezzanine floor to connect it to the West Stand’s second-story press and media facilities.
