Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle issues sporting director update, makes signings claim and hails Lee Grant

The long wait for a new manager at the John Smith’s Stadium has finally ended with the introduction of Lee Grant.

Interestingly, the 42-year-old was given the position of’manager’ rather than ‘head coach’, implying that he may have greater influence over recruitment than his predecessors.
Huddersfield are reportedly considering replacing dismissed sporting director Mark Cartwright, who was among those who bore the brunt of a disastrous 2024/25 season.

Kevin Nagle on potential sporting director appointment

When asked on social networking platform X if Huddersfield would have a sporting director or director of football in place soon, Nagle replied: “Interviewing. “A lot of work on potential signings.” Our recruitment team is quite active. Have robust data models that help Lee target the appropriate players.”

When asked about incoming player additions, Nagle responded, “They will come in time. “Stand by.”

Lee Grant appointment

Many have characterized Grant as a gamble because he has never held a position of leadership in management.

He was a number one goalkeeper for Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley during his playing career, but the Terriers have plucked him from a backstage role at Ipswich Town.

Nagle does not appear to be concerned, stating that he is “fired up” about the future of a team that has been in decline.

He stated, “It’s really fantastic that Lee Grant is joining us. He knows where to take us. He also has a beautiful family, and we met several of them today following the press conference. I am quite excited about our future. You’ll need some patience and time. “Lee knows how to win Yorkshire style.”

Lee Grant on landing the Huddersfield Town job

Grant has previously appeared before the media and spoken effectively about his intentions as Terriers manager.

He stated, “The amount of responsibility I’ve been given is enormous. I am the manager of the football team, and I am quite excited about it.

“So from now on, the players you see walking in the door are players I want, I want them to be here, and I’m looking forward to working with them.

“That implies the values they must share and possess are the ones I want to see. I believe the traits I planned to demonstrate are exactly what Huddersfield Town requires.”
