Gustaf Lagerbielke is set to return to Celtic this summer after a loan spell at Dutch club FC Twente, with the Eredivisie side unlikely to make the move permanent.
The 25-year-old centre-back played an important role in Twente’s season, appearing in 32 games across all competitions as the club finished in sixth place.

However, while addressing the club’s defensive plans for the future, outgoing technical director Arnold Bruggink shot down the prospect of a long-term deal for the Swedish defender.
He told RecordSport that Lagerbielke will most likely return as well. That’s how things appear to be right now. “In my opinion, we need two key defenders, one of whom should be a true leader. “You are looking at the profile of Robin Pröpper.
“You need a leader from behind, which will provide you with much more solidity. “You need players who can motivate others to play better football.
That’s exactly what you need in that position. Lagerbielke, who joined Celtic in the summer of 2023, is now part of a squad that includes Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, and Auston Trusty.
Maik Nawrocki, Dane Murray, and Stephen Welsh are also on the roster, with Welsh due to return from a loan spell with KV Mechelen in Belgium.

Celtic have plenty of center-backs, and it’s unclear whether Brendan Rodgers wants to bring Lagerbielke back into the team or send him out again, either on loan or permanently. Rodgers has also been linked with a move for teenage defender Veljko Milosavljevic, making it appear unlikely that Lagerbielke will stay.
