Jeremie Frimpong completes Liverpool switch as Celtic receive timely cash boost

Liverpool has signed Jeremie Frimpong to a “long-term contract” after he completed his move from Bayer Leverkusen.

In 2021, the right-back left Celtic to join the Bundesliga team. The Parkhead club added a stipulation to the agreement that stated they would get 30% of any future profits produced by Leverkusen on Frimpong.

Celtic will get a pleasant £6.7 million, right in time for the summer transfer window, considering they purchased him for £11.5 million and sold him to Liverpool for £33.7 million.

Regarding the transfer, the quick full-back told Liverpoolfc.com: “It went quite easily.” When Liverpool expressed interest, it was clear to me that I should accept.

“For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done,'” I said to my representatives. “I’m going to give it everything I’ve got, including my work ethic and enthusiasm, and maybe we can win together, rejoice together, and pull everything together, Liverpool supporters.

“I’m simply thrilled to be here. I appreciate your acceptance, and I promise not to disappoint you by giving you the energy you desire.

In 2019, Frimpong was transferred from Manchester City’s academy to Glasgow’s east end. Under Neil Lennon, he made his debut and contributed to triple treble and nine-in-a-row victories.

The Dutchman is now moving to Anfield after spending four and a half years at the BayArena, where he won a Bundesliga title and DFB-Pokal. He joins Liverpool to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is on his way to Real Madrid.

Frimpong joins Arne Slot’s team, the current English champions, to bolster their championship defence in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

At Anfield, the 24-year-old will pair up with Virgil Van Dijk, a fellow former Celtic defender and international player.
