Sheffield United face competition after reviving interest in a former transfer target.
Sheffield United could reunite with former player John Lundstram next season as they prepare for the new Championship season. The Blades are still nursing their wounds following last weekend’s play-off final humiliation at Wembley Stadium, but they can’t afford to waste any more time with the summer transfer market opening on Sunday.
United’s recruitment team has already produced a list of targets in the event that they stay in the second division, with owners COH Sports digging down on their data-driven strategy in a message to supporters following their defeat in the play-off final to Sunderland.

And their Championship rivals are also busily strengthening their squads, with newly relegated Southampton announcing the acquisition of talented young central defender Joshua Quarshie from TSG Hoffenheim earlier today. Hull City, United’s Yorkshire rivals, are also seeking to start the summer on a high note by signing ex-Rangers player Lundstram.
The midfielder, who played in the Premier League for the Blades before a free-transfer move to Ibrox in 2021, is currently in Turkey with Trabzonspor. City, controlled by ambitious Turkish tycoon Acun Ilıcalı, are ready to offer him a return to English football.
According to reports in Turkey, Ilıcalı intends to avoid paying a price for the 31-year-old footballer by waiting for the player’s contract to be ended before making an offer. Meanwhile, if Manchester United renews their interest in right-back Jonjoe Kenny this summer, they may have competition from two German clubs.
United were certain of signing the former Everton player in January, but Hertha Berlin held firm and kept him in the German city, despite the possibility that he would go for free after the season.
Sheffield United face competition if they reignite interest in a former transfer target.
As we previously reported, Kenny was eager to return to England, but he now has a couple of offers from German clubs to consider before making his next move. According to reputable German publication BILD, Borussia Mönchengladbach is interested, while Mainz, who has qualified for the UEFA Conference League, is also interested.
Since right-back is probably a priority position ahead of the new season after Alfie Gilchrist, Harry Clarke, and Hamza Choudhury all returned to their parent clubs, leaving raw rookie Femi Seriki as the only option at the moment, we understand that another move for Kenny is still possible this summer.
After the Kenny deal fell through, United pushed for Clarke at the last minute, but it didn’t work out for either player or club, with the Ipswich Town loanee making only six appearances before being sidelined due to injury.
