Pundit tells Sheffield United to wrap up ‘solid’ QPR transfer amid ‘talks’

QPR face a race against time to keep one of their key defenders.

Sheffield United have been told to secure some’solid business’ by signing a QPR player this summer. QPR face a busy

summer as they look to appoint a new manager following Marti Cifuentes’ effective dismissal.

This was supposed to be a season of advancement for Cifuentes, but a turbulent few months has left the Hoops

looking for a new manager and preparing to start over. QPR manager Christian Nourry expressed his dissatisfaction

with the scenario, saying in a statement: “This is undoubtedly a terrible situation for everyone involved.

“I completely understand and accept the supporters’ grievances at this moment. As a club, we are attempting to

address this situation as soon as possible so that we can begin serious plans for the future.”

The managerial hunt is well underway, but QPR also has other business to attend to, including attempting to retain

centre-back Jimmy Dunne, who is out of contract this summer and has yet to sign a new contract. The 27-year-old is

negotiating a new contract, but QPR are in a race against time as clubs try to turn the defender’s mind.

Sheffield United is thought to be one of those teams, with Chris Wilder’s side preparing for another promotion

campaign after falling short in the play-off final this season. Dunne has been connected with the Blades, and EFL

expert Don Goodman thinks it would be a good move for the Yorkshire club.

“I do think Jimmy Dunne to Sheffield United makes a massive amount of sense,” Goodman told Football League

World. “I believe Chris Wilder would be disappointed that he was unable to bring him to the club in January. There

were strong linkages.

“Despite Queens Park Rangers’ below-average season, Jimmy Dunne continued to amaze, scoring numerous goals

and having a significant impact on the squad. Sheffield United had a fantastic defensive record, but it obviously

became worse once Harry Souttar was injured, and I believe that was one of the key reasons Leeds and Burnley were

able to pull away. In response to your query, Jimmy Dunne would be good business for Chris Wilder and Sheffield

United.

Wilder on play-off heartbreak

Following the play-off defeat, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told the club’s website: “It will take a long time

to get over. We’ve all been involved in the game for a long time, through the highs and lows, and being labeled as a

losing football club wounded me, the players, and, most importantly, the fans.

“The start was what we were looking for; it was a fantastic save (from Kieffer Moore’s header), and we then got our

noses in front. The disputed decision will be the one from Harrison’s shot; it was a subjective decision by the referee.

But, as their manager stated, why are we utilizing VAR when we haven’t for 46 games, including two in the play-offs?

For me, the goalkeeper is not saving it; it has passed him.

“That gave them more energy, it was a lifeline, but we never felt in danger, and I believe the stats back that up; we

simply needed to improve when they opened the game up. We were too loose in transition and on turnovers, and if

we had been better, we could have scored a second and probably third goal to seal the game. We conceded two bad

goals: the first in a poor circumstance, and the second with Anel (Ahmedhodžić) off the pitch and the middle of the

park wide open.

“We should have gone to extra-time and seen those added minutes out, but we didn’t find ours. These things happen,

but we were in the right place, in a controllable position, but our decision-making just wasn’t good enough.” If we

had been tighter and cleaner, we would have been in the Premier League, but we let them back in, and they won with

a great moment.”
