Despite finishing the Championship regular season with a five-game losing streak, Sunderland performed admirably in the playoffs, and following a thrilling finish that included defeating Sheffield United after falling behind at halftime in the final and eliminating Coventry in the semifinals after extra time, the Black Cats were promoted to the Premier League for the first time since losing in 2017.
In his first season with Sunderland, French manager Regis Le Bris pulled off a little miracle, but now he has an even more difficult task: trying to stay in the top flight. In order to have any chance, he will need to bring in some reinforcements this summer.
