On May 30, Rob Staton revealed that the Owls’ pay cheques have been delayed yet again, following a pattern similar to March’s. This puts the Yorkshire club at risk of breaking the EFL’s 30-day rule, which states that 30 days of accumulated late payments over a 12-month period can result in a three-window transfer embargo.

Dejphon Chansiri’s frequent failure to pay staff on time appears to be jeopardising the Owls’ Championship hopes. With the possibility of losing Danny Rohl already looming, key players may seek opportunities elsewhere, leaving no option to replace them owing to a potential embargo. This would be a huge blow at Hillsborough, but Pompey won’t worry too much having finishing so close to them last season.

As a result, Mousinho will be hoping for a successful transfer window at Fratton Park to help construct a side capable of leapfrogging the Owls in the table next season.
