Isaac Schmidt, a defender for Leeds United, has had a tough season.
For Leeds United’s Isaac Schmidt, the writing is on the wall. Since entering on the last day of the 2024 summer transfer window from Swiss club St Gallen, the defender has had difficulty breaking into Daniel Farke’s plans.
Schmidt, who costs about €3 million, is thinking about his future with the Whites after becoming dissatisfied with his lack of first team participation. Last season, the 25-year-old only saw 71 minutes of action in 12 Championship games. He made two starts during their FA Cup matches against Millwall and Harrogate Town at home.
Schmidt’s agent Baykal Bellusci has hinted that his client is willing to leave Elland Road in order to get consistent playing time as he attempts to secure a spot in the Swiss team for the 2026 World Cup. Schmidt started friendly against the United States and Northern Ireland earlier this year and has played three times for Switzerland.
“Isaac played as a left-back for a long time, and we discussed with the club that there was a larger market for the right-back position,” Bellusci stated in an interview with the Swiss daily Blick. Isaac was transferred and called up to the national team as a result of the decision to move him to the right.
He has shown himself with the national squad and grown as a player. Financial concerns shouldn’t take precedence during a World Cup year. Rather, it’s all about one thing: Where can I establish myself by playing the most games? I have no doubt that this summer we will come up with a fantastic solution for him.
