“A never-ending horror show” – Reading FC claim made as Rob Couhig takeover nears completion
Rob Couhig’s agreement to purchase Reading may mark the end of Dai Yongge’s dreadful tenure as the club’s owner.
Following several unsuccessful takeover attempts, Reading has endured a difficult few years under Yongge’s
ownership, including relegation to League One, numerous transfer bans, and points deductions. However, it appears
that the long-suffering fans are finally seeing a bright future.
After his initial takeover attempt failed at the last minute in September and he was involved in a legal dispute with
Yongge, it was revealed on Saturday morning that Couhig’s company, Redwood Holdings Limited, the former owner
of Wycombe Wanderers, had reached an agreement in principle to purchase the club, along with the Bearwood Park
Training Ground and Select Car Leasing Stadium.
There are still “final legal technicalities” that need to be resolved before Couhig’s takeover is finalised. Yongge has
been given until 5 p.m. on May 12 to sell his stake in the club after missing the deadline of May 8.
Although Saturday was not quite the celebration day that Royals fans had hoped for after their team lost to Barnsley
4–2 at home and missed out on the play-offs, they still have a lot to be happy about because the club’s future now
appears to be assured.

Reading reaction given to big Rob Couhig takeover news
that Royals supporters are looking forward to concentrating on football issues once more rather than off-field drama
and that he is relieved that Yongge’s disastrous reign may finally be coming to an end.
“I think it’s a mixture of emotions, to be honest,” Johnny said to FLW.
“It’s been such a journey over the last few years under Dai Yongge.
“The thought of losing our club completely has been so stressful, as well as all the embargoes and points deductions,
it’s been a never-ending horror show.
“Then you get this season which has just been unreal on the playing side, which we never thought we’d see with the
way things were going.
“It’s the best news.
“It is unfortunate that Rob Couhig’s initial attempt to purchase the club in August did not succeed so we wouldn’t
have to endure another turbulent season, but it is what it is.
“Now that it’s finished, we can finally look forward to a club operating effectively and discussing on-field matters like
transfers and starting lineups every week instead of examining court cases, legal paperwork, litigation, and embargo
sites.
“All of the supporters will find it somewhat strange to realise that we have a football team to discuss, which is great.
“That (transfer) embargo is lifted because we have already submitted the accounting for the previous year.
“I don’t see any reason why Couhig can’t do the same for us and put us on a solid basis to rebuild and get everything
in place that the club needs going forward. He did a terrific job at Wycombe and managed the club appropriately.
“It is exciting times.”
After trying to purchase the Bearwood Park Training Ground during his tenure as Wycombe’s owner last year,
Couhig hasn’t always been the most well-liked person among Reading fans, but his perseverance in securing a deal
for the team has undoubtedly earned them respect.
After his previous takeover attempt failed and the two parties got into a legal battle, it seemed very unlikely that
Couhig and Yongge would ever come to an agreement. However, the American businessman was adamant about
acquiring the Royals, and it appears that the sale could be finalised next week.
During his time at Adams Park, Couhig demonstrated that he was a reliable manager. With a solid team already
assembled, Reading may have a better season ahead of them, especially now that they can once more conduct
business as usual in the transfer market.
