A ‘tough’ message was conveyed by Frank Lampard as Coventry City Questioned.
Although Coventry City’s eligibility for automatic promotion has been questioned, Frank Lampard has been backed to lead the Sky Blues to contend for the Championship’s top spot in the upcoming year.
When Lampard took over at the CBS Arena in November of last year, he transformed Coventry’s results and led them into the playoffs.
Although they lost to eventual winners Sunderland in the semi-finals of the playoffs, Lampard’s team is predicted to contend for promotion to the Premier League once more when the new season begins.
Don Goodman, a Sky Sports analyst, told Football League World that he believes Coventry will finish near the top of the table the following season.
It’s incredibly difficult to predict if they’ll place in the top two.
There is clearly a lot of work to be done, in my opinion. It’s hard to predict at this point because players will come and go.
Subject to international clearance and a work visa, Coventry has agreed to a deal for defender Miguel Ángel Brau, their first summer acquisition.
“What I’ll say is that they’ll be playing against teams like Sheffield United, who I expect to be up there again, West Brom, who I expect to do better, Middlesbrough, Norwich, and those that were relegated—Southampton, Leicester, obviously came back down, and Ipswich, who will be very, very strong,” Goodman continued.
“And the clubs that came up will be strong, so I do think the Championship as a whole is going to be much stronger than last season, and that’s going to make it all the more difficult for Coventry to get a top two place – I’m not saying they can’t do it, I’m saying it’ll be difficult.”
