After a successful loan season with Cove Rangers, the 19-year-old is coveted by numerous clubs, including one that was recently relegated from the Scottish Premiership.

Ross County is interested in signing Aberdeen winger Adam Emslie permanently. The 19-year-old, who scored 13 goals on loan at Paul Hartley’s League One Cove Rangers last season, is being pursued by the Staggies, who were relegated via the Premiership play-off against Livingston in May.

Dingwall manager Don Cowie, who is also desperate to keep 18-goal Northern Ireland international Ronan Hale, needs more firepower to help his team return to the top flight at the first time of asking. County intends to play wingers in the second division next season, and they will have plenty of options with Emslie joining summer signings Gary Mackay-Steven, Jay Henderson, and George Robesten.

However, the Press and Journal knows that County is just one of several clubs interested in right-sided wideman Emslie.

It is also reported that the highly rated youngster could yet stay with Jimmy Thelin’s Dons.

Emslie’s breakout campaign with Cove

Emslie not only scored impressively in 35 Cove starts, but he also assisted seven times.

Emslie had such a strong influence at Cove that the Dons recalled him from his loan term on transfer deadline day in January to train with Thelin’s team before returning to the Balmoral Stadium.

The youthful attacker rose through the ranks at Aberdeen but is yet to make a first-team debut. He is also on loan with Highland League club Formartine United from 2023 to 2024.

Cove and the Dons are now developing a new SFA-led co-operation loan relationship that would allow young players to join a lower-league team but switch between the parent and cooperation clubs throughout the season to gain more playing time.

Club on search for new keeper after Amissah’s surprise return south

Ross County, meantime, announced this morning that custodian Jordan Amissah has left the club for free to join Burton Albion on a two-year contract. The custodian, who joined Dingwall on a free transfer in December due to the injury of then-number one Ross Laidlaw, inked an extension with the club in March that would last until 2027.

However, in his most recent two-year deal, he included a condition that allowed him to leave for free if the club was demoted.

Amissah, who was on loan at Burton in 2023, wanted to be closer to home in England for family reasons.

Staggies chief executive Steven Ferguson said: “We signed Jordan on a free transfer to play in the Premiership.

“There was a condition in the contract that allowed us to have a talk if we did not make the Premiership, particularly due to family circumstances. Jordan decided it would be best for him to return south, which was only half an hour away from his home.

The German-born ex-Sheffield United goalkeeper preserved four clean sheets in 12 games over a crucial winter period, enabling the Staggies climb the Premiership standings.

The 23-year-old had originally pushed Jack Hamilton out of the County squad and maintained his starting spot even when long-time No.1 Ross Laidlaw was fit and available.

A statement from Ross County this morning confirmed the move to English League One club Burton, adding: “Jordan made 23 appearances for the club since joining in December last year.” “We thank Jordan for his contributions whilst at the club and wish him all the very best for the future.” Laidlaw is now the primary custodian at the Global Energy Stadium, with 19-year-old Jayden Reid, who has yet to make a first-team appearance appearance, as the back-up.

With less than two weeks until the Premier Sports Cup competition begins in Stranraer, manager Don Cowie is looking for a new custodian.

Ferguson went on: “Ross Laidlaw is fit and available, but we’re well under way for a replacement for Jordan.”
