Adil Aouchiche is off to Aberdeen—a good move for him?
I’m happy that we were able to let him go so fast.
Adil was never going to return and make an impact, especially after promotion, since it was very obvious last season that he had no future here under Régis Le Bris. His loan to Portsmouth went okay but was nothing spectacular.
Although I believe there is a talented player there, I’m not convinced we can afford to wait to find out.
He’ll probably do well in Scotland if he knuckles down and fits in and that’s the key thing here. Adil has the talent, but can he apply it over a 40+ game season and will he find a manager who’ll show him a bit of love?
In actuality Aberdeen is a very progressive football team, and they make wise hiring decisions. They usually search the European leagues for the less well-known players and it seems to be working because they took home a cup the previous season.
In any case, I believe this is a smart move for their head coach, Jimmy Thelin, who was linked to the Sunderland position prior to Le Bris landing it. I wonder whether he had researched Sunderland at the time and was familiar with Aouchiche.
We have a lot of players to get rid of—one down, around twenty to go!

Ultimately, I’m happy for Adil because Aberdeen is a respectable team and a good fit for him.
Even though he was a grafter, he always gave us his all He was undoubtedly a Championship-level player, but I don’t think he’ll ever be Premier League calibre. Hopefully, he’ll fit in well in Scotland and make an impression enough for them to offer him a permanent position.
He’s one of the more desirable guys on the team that we need to let go of, and I’m not sure if we’ll sell or loan out the others

He always gave us his all, despite the fact that he was a grafter. He certainly played at a Championship level, but I don’t believe he will ever reach Premier League level. With any luck, he’ll blend in well in Scotland and leave a strong enough impression to earn a permanent job offer.

The overriding feeling on this one is it should be a shrewd move for all parties
Aouchiche was never in line to make an impact for Sunderland last season beyond his ‘break glass in case of emergency’ cameo mid-season when all other options were exhausted, so it was even less likely he would be offered any kind of chance in the division above
Nevertheless, with a future price included in the agreement, a move to Aberdeen ought to offer a solution for all sides.
If his mindset is right, Aouchiche should be far superior to the level he will encounter outside of Celtic at that level Hopefully this will be sufficient to persuade Aberdeen to give up their money
Although Aouchiche won’t be the last player forced to relocate this summer, giving players moves that position them for success can only be advantageous to the team and the player.
