Adil Aouchiche on the teammate who sold him on Aberdeen move and his aim to bring more cup success to the Dons.

The 22-year-old offensive midfielder worked his way up at Paris Saint-Germain. Adil Aouchiche, an attacking midfielder, aspires to help Aberdeen win more trophies this season.

The 22-year-old joined the Dons on a season-long loan from Sunderland. Aberdeen have the option to purchase Aouchiche next summer for a club record cost of £1.5 million.

The former AS Saint-Étienne and Lorient star has joined his new Aberdeen teammates for their training camp in Portugal. Aouchiche spent the second half of last season on loan at Portsmouth, where he played with another new Dons signing, Kusini Yengi.

The Frenchman stated that he spoke with Yengi before making the transfer to Pittodrie. He remarked, “To be honest, he was the first person who approached me about the Aberdeen project.

“He was really clear and honest with me. “It was an appropriate key for the project. “Of course, it’ll help me settle in.” “I’ll learn with him. When I was in Portsmouth, he was always willing to help me and made me feel welcome.

“Of course, on the pitch is the most essential thing, and he is a good player – strong, quick, and powerful. “I prefer to play with this type of player. Kusini will be an excellent teammate and a decent man in general.”

Jimmy Thelin’s side is gearing up for the new season, with memories of their Scottish Cup final exploits at Hampden still vivid.

Aouchiche, a youth international for France up to the under-20 level, hopes to be a part of something similar in the upcoming season. He stated: “I aim to accomplish some goals with the team.

Hopefully, one title will be won again, bringing memories to our club.

“This will be advantageous for me. “On a personal level, I simply play a lot of games, be myself, and contribute my strengths to the team. “I want to score goals, give assists and help the club grow.”

Adil came through the youth ranks at Paris Saint-Germain and made his debut for Les Parisiens aged just 17-years-old, in a 2-0 win over Metz in August 2019.

He said, “To be honest, this is the best moment of my career thus far.

“Because it was my dream when I was a kid and it was a really good moment for me and for my family.”

Breaking records at PSG

Five months after making his debut, he surpassed the club record for the youngest ever PSG goalscorer in the Coupe de France, scoring one of six goals in a 6–0 victory over Linas-Montlhéry. He left Paris in June 2020 to join Ligue 1 club AS Saint-Étienne. He made 77 appearances over two seasons before joining Lorient in the summer of 2022. After one season at Lorient, he joined Sunderland for an undisclosed price.

He played 37 games for Sunderland before moving on loan to Portsmouth in January, where he scored once in 12 appearances. Aouchiche expressed excitement about his fresh start in Scottish football.

He stated, “It’s a special feeling to sign for Aberdeen.” “The best decision for me is to come here. Everyone knows it’s a major club in Europe and Scotland. “I had a very nice and meaningful conversation with the boss, and he made me feel like I was welcome here.

He wants me to enjoy the loan period and provide my skills and expertise to the team. “I’ll attempt to bring everything to my teammates and the club. I want to do something here and possibly build some pleasant memories.

Thelin hails an exciting addition

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin believes the French midfielder can have a significant influence at Pittodrie. He remarked, “We are happy to welcome Adil to Aberdeen.

“He’s a technically gifted player who injects creativity and great attacking instincts into our midfield. “At only 22, Adil has already competed at a high level in France and England.

His expertise, combined with his ambition to continue growing, makes him a very exciting addition to the group, and we believe this is an ideal atmosphere for him to succeed. “We look forward to working with him over the coming season and helping him make a real impact in a Dons shirt.”
