Akin Famewo confirms Sheffield Wednesday exit with emotional goodbye message ahead of Hull City move

Akin Famewo confirms Sheffield Wednesday exit with emotional goodbye message ahead of Hull City move.

A dark cloud continues to hang over Sheffield Wednesday, as the Owls struggle to overcome the numerous issues caused by Dejphon Chansiri.

Unpaid player wages, failed takeover bids, no new signings, player departures, and uncertainty over Danny Rohl’s future have all contributed to their demise this summer.

The supporters have been through a slew of issues, and for Sheffield Wednesday to see light at the end of the tunnel, Dejphon Chansiri must pack his bags and leave.

The term ‘leave’ has been heavily associated with the Owls this summer, as several of their players have left Hillsborough after not being paid.

Wednesday fans were disappointed when Djeidi Gassama joined Rangers and Josh Windass completed his move to Wrexham, with more heartache on the way.

Akin Famewo says goodbye to Sheffield Wednesday ahead of Hull City transfer

Sheffield Wednesday were boosted by Callum Paterson’s return to training this week, but they also discovered that Akin Famewo was close to joining Hull City.

Famewo was one of several players whose contracts expired at the end of last month, and despite being offered new terms by the club, the centre-back has decided to officially leave Hillsborough after three years.

The 26-year-old made 73 appearances for the Owls and was a member of the Wednesday team that won promotion through the play-offs in 2023.

Now, as the defender prepares to embark on his next chapter, he has posted an emotional goodbye message to his former club on Instagram.

“I want to say a massive thank you to the staff, players and supporters,” Famewo wrote on Instagram. “I am proud to have represented the club for the past three years and have enjoyed every minute of it.

I wish you all the best for the future; it’s what the club deserves. “I’d like to thank you for your outstanding support over the years. I depart with fondness and gratitude.

Thank you, Owls.” Famewo joins a long list of S6 players who have left this summer, leaving Sheffield Wednesday’s squad thin.

How many senior players Sheffield Wednesday have left

Sheffield Wednesday fans were outraged this week when they learnt that their friendly against Mansfield on Saturday would be played behind closed doors.

Despite the club’s dire financial situation, fans wanted to see their players in action, with youngsters now expected to shine at Sheffield Wednesday.

Wednesday will rely on academy players to break into the first team next season, as the club only has nine senior players aged 21 and is overtraining ahead of their game against Mansfield.

Their names are Liam Palmer, Dominic Iorfa, Max Lowe, Yan Valery, Nathaniel Chalobah, Svante Ingelsson, Olaf Kobacki, Jamal Lowe, and Ike Ugbo.

Di’Shon Bernard remains with the club, but he is currently sidelined due to injury.
