PSV Women will compete in the TOTO KNVB Cup final tomorrow for the sixth time in club history. In a rematch of the 2022-2023 season final, PSV will face FC Twente for the coveted trophy.

This season, PSV and FC Twente compete for two prizes: the national title and the TOTO KNVB Cup. The teams are currently in first and second place in the league table, with the same number of points. The Tukkers hold a five-goal advantage. This season, the league’s mutual duels were also evenly balanced. The game in Enschede ended in a 0-0 draw, as did the one in Eindhoven (2-2). PSV’s Chimaera Ripa and Fleur Stoit scored the goals.

Road to the Final
PSV Women made a convincing run to the final. They won the eighth final on home turf over their own promising team, Young PSV Women. Fenna Kalma scored a hat-trick, while Nina Nijstad, Riola Xhemaili, Shanique Dessing, and Joëlle Smits added goals. In the quarterfinals, Roeland ten Berge’s team defeated AZ Women 2-1. PSV trailed for a long time before Melanie Bross scored the equaliser. In the 87th minute, Xhemaili scored the game-winning penalty kick.

PSV Women then easily qualified for the final, defeating Feyenoord Women 3-0. Renate Jansen, Fenna Kalma, and Shanique Dessing each scored goals.

Final history
PSV is in the Cup Final for the seventh time, but has only won once. The Women have lost four times to Ajax and once to FC Twente. In the 2020-2021 season, PSV won the cup for the first time, defeating ADO Den Haag 1-0 in the final with a raking header by Joëlle Smits. Interestingly, PSV captain Gwyneth Hendriks was still on the opposing team at the time and played against them.

FC Twente has been to four cup finals, winning three of them. The Tukkers’ most recent final was in 2023, in which they faced PSV. FC Twente won 4-0, with Renate Janssen scoring for Twente.
