“Amen;” Green Bay Packers Legend Brett Favre Breaks Silence on Key Fact in Mississippi Welfare Scandal

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre is one of the most contentious individuals in the history of the team. Once admired for leading the Packers back to Super Bowl success, Favre saw many fans turn on him when he retired after a year with the New York Jets only to unretire and sign with the Minnesota Vikings.

It is not uncommon, though, for great players and fan-favorites to find themselves playing for multiple clubs towards the end of their NFL careers. And time, as they say, cures all wounds. For this reason, when the Packers retired Favre’s number, fans finally embraced his return.

Despite the fact that many fans hold Favre in high respect, his reputation has been tarnished by incidents that happened both during and after his playing career.

Green Bay Packers Legend Brett Favre Is the Subject of a Netflix Documentary

In addition to discussing Favre’s acknowledged painkiller addiction while in Green Bay, the Netflix documentary “The Fall of Favre” delves into some shady aspects of his life before, during, and after his playing career. The episode focuses heavily on the Jenn Sterger scandal, in which Favre sent a private photo of himself to the Jets’ sideline reporter.

In her extensive interview for the documentary, Sterger disclosed a number of text messages, emails, and voicemails she received from Favre. Naturally, the final segment of “Fall of Favre” focuses on the Mississippi Welfare Scandal and his alleged involvement in it. As fans are well aware, Favre was charged with assisting in the theft of millions of dollars from Mississippi’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Fund and was even ordered to reimburse the state $1.1 million for unfulfilled speaking engagements. Despite the allegations, and his business partner’s guilty plea to wire fraud in connection with the scandal, Favre has not been charged or found guilty of any crimes.

In addition to Sterger, some of the reporters who covered the story were interviewed for the documentary. So too were state officials, who had no kind things to say about the former Packers great.

Despite claiming to have approached Favre about the film, Netflix did not interview him.
