An awful season – but calling for McKenna’s head is absolute nonsense
Welcome to Ipswich Town 2024-2025, ladies and gentlemen. You’ll be happy to know that we have all of your old favorites when we play Leicester City this time.
Due to popular demand, the bill starts with a string of wasted opportunities, followed by soft goals let up, and then, you guessed it, a goalkeeping blunder.
Indeed, I fear that our incredibly frustrating defeat at Leicester exposed all of our typical flaws, which have resulted in the worst season in our history in terms of points earned.
Without a doubt, Leicester has no chance. That much is clear from the table. However, we now run the risk of finishing lower than them, which is a very depressing indication of how completely our season has fallen apart.
We should not have lost that game in any way. We created a lot of opportunities and clear chances, but we just didn’t take any of them. This season, that has happened a lot.
Either we made bad choices when we were in favorable positions, or our players panicked and grasped at opportunities. We shot repeatedly when we had the opportunity to play a teammate through.
It is inexcusable to fail to score against this completely inept and vulnerable Leicester defense.
Jamie Vardy, of course, scored at the opposite end. He did, of course. The stars had written it.

He must have been extremely confident in his chances of scoring his 200th goal when he realized he was playing Ipswich in his final Leicester match. That’s what it proved.
I don’t blame him, to be completely honest. Over the years, he has been an outstanding performer for the Foxes, especially during the historic 2016 Premier League campaign. And many other young people should find inspiration in his journey to the top following his early non-league setbacks.
Thus, we fall to the second-bottom position. It’s embarrassing. We have now lost more games than we have collected points after our 23rd league loss. Startling.
We haven’t defeated Southampton or Leicester. In actuality, we have a grand total of two points from the four games we have played versus those two. Horrible, The season’s second half has been nothing short of disastrous. I won’t go over the causes for our failure again because they have already been thoroughly discussed.
We must, of course, look ahead. There’s still one more match, against the struggling Hammers. A victory would be a nice way to end. Since we only have one league victory at Portman Road this season, our supporters should enjoy a good send-off.
Apart from that, Kieran McKenna and CEO Mark Ashton have a lot of work ahead of them. That pair must somehow create a team that returns to the Premier League quickly. But that’s only the beginning.
Beyond that, if we do immediately return to the top flight (which is a real possibility), it must be with a team that is noticeably better than the one that didn’t make it this season.
That’s a big task. It will entail bringing in new players, undoubtedly spending a ton of money, and applying the tough lessons we’ve learnt during this ultimately heartbreaking Premier League season.

Due to the awful season we’ve had, rumors regarding Kieran McKenna have inevitably begun to circulate. Anyone who claims that he was fired is spreading complete garbage.
He’s a clever cookie, and this season’s chastening experience will teach him a lot. He will be aware of his mistakes and resolve not to make them again.
There was some much-needed news this week amid the grim news of Town’s relegation.
Hearing that George Burley has been given the all-clear from cancer made me very happy. George, good job. Wonderful news. Additionally, it serves as a timely reminder that life has many more significant parts than sports.
