“Another “blow”—Reaction given as 26-year-old leaves Sheffield Wednesday for EFL club

Akin Famewo, who has been linked to Hull City, is the most recent Sheffield Wednesday player to leave the team as a free agent.

The 26-year-old left Hillsborough after his contract was mutually terminated, and Hull Live reports that the Tigers are in negotiations to sign him.

The defender is reportedly moving on swiftly from playing for Danny Rohl’s team and could join for the Owls’ Yorkshire rivals by the middle of this week.

Famewo made 65 league appearances during the last three seasons while playing for Sheffield Wednesday.

Akin Famewo blow for Sheffield Wednesday

It has been a summer of blows for the team, according to Patrick McKenna, a fan commentator for FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday, when asked if Famewo’s departure was a blow.

Although he doesn’t mind losing Famewo’s skills, he thinks the greater problem is the loss of the depth and experience he brought to the team.

“In a summer full of blows, this is definitely another one for us,” McKenna told Football League World.

“Akin, I know he’s not a great defender, he’s at the bottom of the Championship, and he makes mistakes, but I believe he was at his best last season before getting hurt.

However, losing another player, losing more players, weakening our team, and losing more experience are the key reasons for this, not actually skill.

You don’t want to witness it, yet once more, he will be a player playing for nothing.

“And he’s leaving because of his pay, so it’s another setback and will further affect the upcoming season.”

In what has been a very trying time for Sheffield Wednesday behind the scenes, Josh Windass and Michael Smith have also left the team this summer due to contract terminations.

Sheffield Wednesday disasters are piling up

Since Famewo wasn’t a crucial member of the team, losing him doesn’t seem like a huge setback.

However, considering the number of departures that are already mounting, it is a setback for whoever manages the team next season, whether it is Danny Rohl or someone else.

With the transfer limitations placed on them and the limited funds, replacing these players won’t be simple.

Sheffield Wednesday may have a challenging season ahead of them, particularly if additional departures occur.
